Portland, Oregon’s SOFT KILL, ripped through 2016 with their first release on Profound Lore Records ‘Choke’, the follow up to 2015’s ‘Heresy’became the band’s most acclaimed LP to date and saw the band on a constant touring cycle in support of it through North America and Europe as demand for the band was on a constant upswing. SOFT KILL now return with the triumphant follow up full length Savior to be released by Profound Lore Records on 5/11/18, bringing their unique blend of gloom, laced with pop charm and flawless song writing that transcends the post punk genre.

The writing for Savior was sparked while returning from tour, frontman Tobias Grave’s wife began to bleed out in the van, at eight months pregnant they were in the middle of nowhere on the side of the road far from a medical facility. The band raced through the night landing at the emergency room of UC Davis Trauma Center in Sacramento where surgery was performed to save both the mother and unborn child. Although the surgery went well, baby Dominick’s lung collapsed on his second day of life causing him to flat line. Grave was forced to standby and watch as the doctors and nurses struggled to keep his newborn child alive with blood transfusions, breathing and feeding tubes. As days turned into weeks, stranded far from home, standing vigil, he purchased a guitar, borrowed a bass from a friend and began to write songs that eventually would become the core of Savior. Grave wrote songs about losing his son, his battle with drug addiction, the many tragedies that came along with that life, and the empty space suspended between mourning and celebration, life and death.

With Savior, recorded/mixed in Kingsize Sudios in Los Angeles and produced by Benjamin Greenberg (Uniform, The Men, Algiers) SOFT KILL have matured into a powerhouse, effortlessly combining genres, always with Grave’s powerful, raw emotional storytelling where we see a person come to grips with their own reflection as seen in the eyes of their dying son. From the pop perfection of “Trying Not to Die” to the swelling and crushing guitars on “Hard Candy” to the unrelenting dirge of “Bunny Room”, Savior is a creative tour de force. Drawing from a diverse musical palette, Savior is influenced by early U2, Gun Club, The Replacements and a requiem to Tom Petty.

‘Polymath make densely layered, off kilter instrumental Math-Rock that leans on the heavier elements of the genre reminiscent of early Battles, The Mars Volta, and ASIWYFA. Polymath seek out new levels of complexity in their music whilst never straying too far from a neatly arranged composition.’

INTERNATIONAL TEACHERS OF POP – (New DISCO project from The Moonlandingz founders.) – Announce first UK TOUR.

The Moonlandingz founders/ co-songwriters, Adrian Flanagan (Eccentronic Research Council) & Dean Honer (All Seeing I) have teamed up with singer Leonore Wheatley of Nottingham’s library psych group, The Soundcarriers (Ghost Box) for an exciting new ‘nerd disco’ project called INTERNATIONAL TEACHERS OF POP and they are now taking it for a short tour around the UK.

The group formed early in 2018 at a ‘Circuit Bending’ workshop in a school in Valhalla Dale, South Yorkshire where Leonore teaches Music.

Their first live appearance was in a cave in Derbyshire (The Devils Arse) on invite from the Lord mayor of South Yorkshire and misshape pop, JARVIS COCKER.

A month later, after an A&R scramble post a triumphant BBC 6 MUSIC radio session for Marc Riley they signed an album and singles deal with Republic of Music to release their music on their own imprint, DESOLATE SPOOLS.

In the past weeks I.T.O.P. have been wowing crowds at the prestigious Somerset House with another Sheffield outsider Pop Legend, Roisin Murphy and packing out tents at Bluedot Festival at Jodrell Bank with festival appearances at Greenman Festival and Electric Fields augmented by a full live group including the throbbing disco beat of Moonlandingz drummer, Rich Westley along with arts, crafts and pottery expert, Katie Mason on additional vocals and interpretive dance.

International Teachers of Pop debut single ‘AGE OF THE TRAIN’ has just hit the radio and is already picking up traction with BBC 6 MUSIC.

Bambara

October 23rd, 2018

Shadow on Everything, the third LP by Bambara and their first for Wharf Cat Records, represents a decisive step forward for the NYC-via-Georgia trio. Frontman Reid Bateh, drummer Blaze Bateh, and bassist William Brookshire have always been adept students of noise rock and post-punk, mining the work of bands like Swans and The Birthday Party to construct what NPR called their “beautifully dynamic nightmares.”

Now, they’ve transcended their early influences to produce a Western Gothic concept album that sounds as big as the desert sky looming over its characters’ lives. As with all previous Bambara releases, the musical center of Shadow on Everything is its impossibly tight rhythm section. Blaze’s frenzied yet metronomic drumming and William’s prominent bass lines have plenty of personality on their own, but they also provide a perfect canvas for Reid’s wild guitar squalls and howled vocals. While Reid’s lyrics have always been a critical part of Bambara’s songs, his voice is pushed to the front of the mix on Shadow, placing his damaged characters and seedy locales at center stage.

A stridently experimental record, Shadow features everything from violin to cornet arrangements, and is meticulously interspersed with outre? ambient noise loops distilled down from hours of manipulated vocal collages that the band sifts through to find the perfect textures. The production by Andy Chugg (Pop. 1280, Pill) is crisp and clear, giving life to the band’s decision to foreground the vocals, but it splashes enough darkness on the songs to help them retain their pitch- black atmosphere. By far Bambara’s most ambitious album, Shadow On Everything shows a band operating at absolute peak creativity and execution. Bambara’s pummeling and unpredictable live set has made them one of New York City’s most sought after acts – having impressed noise-pop auteur Angus Andrew to the extent that he asked Reid and Blaze to join Liars as members on 2017’s worldwide tour. Additionally, Bambara has toured the US and Europe extensively alongside the likes of Liars, Metz, Girl Band, APTBS, Algiers and more.

“Daniel Romano’s Ancient Shapes is the sound of punk rock, power pop, and psychedelic garage. It’s a solo recording project and a ripping and well-dressed live band. It’s a collage of spontaneous poetry and repurposed graphic design. The foul debris of late capitalism fuels alien engines. A hummingbird sits on barbed wire. Flowers bloom between the cracks. Insects crawl across the moon. Hopelessness and hope form a perfect sphere.”
