Xiu Xiu is the conduit for the uncompromising and unnervingly personal musical works of Los Angeles-based multi-instrumentalist Jamie Stewart, plus a roll call of collaborators both in studio and onstage..

Streaming forth a ceaseless torrent of releases, side projects, art offerings and extensive international touring since 2002, Xiu Xiu’s music has veered from damaged avant-pop to artfully orchestrated rock, squalls of black-hearted noise and most bases around and between, ever served with a bruising honesty and intensity that has ripped out the hearts of a legion of obsessive listeners.

Latest Xiu Xiu album ‘Girl with Basket of Fruit’ (out Feb 2019) is a rowdier, yet more stylistically splenetic offering than 2017’s ‘Forget’, with the usual eye-catching list of collaborators this time including Eugene Robinson (Oxbow), Devin Hoff and Haitian percussionists Emmanuel Obi and Ayo Okafor.
For 2019 live operations Xiu Xiu is manifest in the form of Stewart, Thor Harris (drums/percussion) and Christopher Pravdica (bass).

Avalanche Party is feral garage-punk rock & roll from the North Yorkshire Moors. Their sound is intense and immediate, so new yet so familiar, brimming with an urgency that explodes off the stage like the front lines of a war you didn’t even realise was being fought. Every note played through white knuckles, every word spat through gritted teeth.

The past few years have seen Avalanche Party tear away from the moors, greeting the UK, Europe and USA with intense live performances. Hotly tipped by many for big industry success, the band has had heavy radio support, being championed by BBC Introducing, Radio 1’s Huw Stephens, 6 Music’s
Steve Lamacq and Tom Robinson, Vic Galloway at BBC Scotland, John Kennedy at Radio X, Edith Bowman at Virgin Radio, Jim Gellatly at Amazing Radio and KEXP’s Kevin Cole & KCRW’s Jason Kramer in the USA.

the Woodentops are a national treasure. Propelled into the arena by John Peel in the early 1980’s and furthered by Rough Trade they produced a slew of high energy singles that leapt out of the radio. One of the stand out albums of the period, Giant, led to one of the best live Lp’s of all time ‘Hypnobeat Live’. A cut from this album ‘Why Why Why is the principle crossover anthem of the second summer of love that brought the club movement of the late eighties. David Bowie, a big fan of the band booked them to support, Prince tried, the Smiths threw them off their tour for being just too dangerous. its an incredible journey that has a bag full of little victories but no one mega hit that has dampened the joy of creation, as is usually the case. The fun is intact and the ideas varied and immediately likeable.
The Woodentops are proper, as time has proven and they 100% rock the house.

Coilguns is one of the proud flag holders of the 2.0 DIY scene since 2011 when they accidentally formed with the purpose of playing fast and simple music. After releasing a first ep in the shape of homemade screen printed and packed in pvc food bags cd version – they sign to Pelagic Records and quickly the band becomes the main activity of its three members. In 2012 guitarist Jona Nido founds his own label – Hummus Records – counting until now more than fifty releases including all Coilguns music.

Coilguns sums up a total of four ep’s and one full length. Their first album “Commuters” was released in February 2013 as a co-op between Hummus Records and Pelagic Records. All their music has always been recorded live and uncut, generally written and recorded on the spot wherever they were at the moment, sometimes on the other side of the world when touring with their former band, German prog-metallers The Ocean.

In 2015 and over a hundred sixty shows throughout Europe and Australia, the band decides to take a break and write the follow up to “Commuters”. In January 2016, the boys rent out a secluded house on the country side of Germany and build up a full 16 tracks analog studio. For a month, the three are on their own, writing, recording and mixing their second full length themselves without any computer involved.

Despite all of them being busy with other projects (Louis Jucker solo, Closet Disco Queen, Kunz…) Coilguns still performed twice in 2016, one show taking place in Switzerland’s biggest open air festival; Paléo Festival. Coilguns now features a fourth multi-instrumentalist member adding dimention to the band’s live setup with extra synths, percussions and backing vocals.

Yautja

“Nashville trio Yautja are a prog-minded act that combines grindcore and Amphetamine Reptile-era noise with the artier shades of hardcore and death metal. Yautja doesn’t just stack hairpin turn after hairpin turn—an approach that was tired by technical death metal’s mid-’90s peak. Instead, bassist Kayhan Vaziri, guitarist Shibby Poole, and drummer Tyler Coburn create a highly malleable, mercury-like alloy that changes shape with liquid ease yet retains the solidity of its structure”

Formed in 2009 in Nashville, Tennessee, Yautja has toured the states and central Canada extensively with the likes of Drop Dead, Exhumed, Magrudergrind, Revocation, Black Breath, Inter Arma, Cult Leader, Pyrrhon, Rivers of Nihil, Mutilation Rites, Maruta and more. Their first full length LP Songs of Descent and follow up companion EP Songs of Lament were released by Forcefield Records, who also introduced the world to Inter Arma, Windhand, Cough, Cannabis Corpse, Bastard Sapling, etc. Yautja is currently working on their second full-length album to be released in early 2020.

You can’t start a band called Cocaine Piss and be serious at the same time, can you? It would be the equivalent of naming your kid something like Kick Me In The Head Throughout Life Whenever Possible Smith. It’s not exactly the best commercial boost to a new thing. But ever since coming into twisted existence in 2014 in the Belgian city of Liège, pretty much as a bad taste joke, Cocaine Piss never really had time to consider such fine details, like having a band name that you can safely say in public, or just having any kind of plan for anything. They just revved the engine of the piss rocket and watched it launch, and before they knew it, it was flying sky-high.

Pretty soon the band became an important name in the Walloon alternative rock scene. Not because they held serious meetings with important people, or because they meticulously traced a conquest schedule on their spreadsheets. No, the band’s method has always been showing up and whipping up a chaotic mess with their high octane blend of punk and noise that’s all over within 20/25 minutes. It’s like Dead Kennedys, Bikini Kill and Melt Banana all playing at once while really high on their namesake substance, right up until the venue cuts the power and everything’s suddenly over, leaving you euphoric, disoriented and punching walls just for fun. The atomic energy of their hit and run shows inevitably started to get some attention from bookers and press within the splash zone of Flanders and the Netherlands and so, like a crass joke that you can’t stop from spreading, Cocaine Piss started to spread their fluffy wings across Europe too.

Those that were there when they were unleashing their first whirlwinds of snot and pee might have thought it was unlikely to get even more savage, but over 400 gigs all over Europe will have an effect on a band no matter how good they are to start with. Leaving stinkbombs from Norway to Portugal, from Lithuania to the UK, from enormous outdoor summer festivals to squats and tiny basements and everything in between, the Cocaine Piss live precision bomb is now fully refined and of greater impact than ever before. Not only that, but their own sound has also grown in the process. The initial boundless energy is still there and then some, but like toilet paper rolling across the floor, all kinds of other nasty things have started to stick to them. Strands of fast hardcore and 80s noise rock (think Mudhoney, Big Black) have rubbed their nasty little heads on the newer songs and made them all the more furious. Also, there is one fan in particular whose attention they’ve attracted that has turned out to be very important – a certain Steve Albini, with whom they have now recorded two full-length (which, for Cocaine Piss, means around twenty minutes) albums, The Dancer and Passionate And Tragic. We’re sure that wearing their t-shirt while winning a World Series of Poker event worked as a lucky charm for him.

Cocaine Piss are also a great example of the many things you can accomplish while not being an asshole. Their music might be nasty, provocative, dirty and mean, but their message is always a positive one that should leave a mark as deep as their riffs will cut. Gender equality is the main thread in their work, and they always make it a point to collaborate with young and promising people. The art director chosen to take care of all the visual aspects of this latest release (album cover, photography, videos) is Laetitia Bica, who earned her stripes in the fashion business. As you could already see by the My Cake video, she has fully embraced the colourful rainbow, diving deep into the Cocaine Piss universe. Together with Thierry Tönnes she took care of all visuals that will accompany the sonic chaos.

All of this in just five years, and yet, it feels like they’re just beginning. With an unwieldy bunch of dates already announced, where will Cocaine Piss point their unstoppable yellow stream next? We don’t know, but we’ll love being there when it happens. Stay tuned, stay wet, stay alive!

In contrast to many other rock bands, Guitar Wolf is truly living the Rock’n Roll lifestyle like no one has ever done before and you can hear that in their songs: Sweat, blood, tears and unfiltered pure energy result in wild and destructive Rock’n Roll anthems! But Rock’n Roll is still not enough for a band like Guitar Wolf and so they launched a whole new genre called “Jet Rock’n Roll“ which depicts best the wild mixture of Punk, Rock and Noise!

Guitar Wolf has gained a cult status all around the world, like no other Japanese band before! Their fierce live performances and appearance in the Trash-Rock’n Roll movie „Wild Zero“ caused a lot of attention all over the world.

Nobody remembers if Gladys Broussard won the bingo game by going across or down. She might have even won by going diagonal, which has always been kind of like cheating to me. Anyhow, they had to give her the prize: two 33 and 1/3 long playing albums. The first was a Kiss record. They looked awful, very dangerous. The other album was the Village People’s Cruisin’. It had a few men on the cover, relaxing on their toys. One had a big bulldozer, one an army jeep. Of course, the troublemaker had himself a chopper.

Gladys knew exactly what she was going to do with them. She gave this Kiss record to the Pegue boys who lived down the street and who were always getting in trouble. They couldn’t drive the family’s one working car in or out of the driveway without screeching the wheels and holding their middle finger up at their siblings left on the front porch. The Pegues played the record for about a month straight. Then it was stolen by the neighbor boy behind them. That boy was always lighting fires and torturing animals. Can’t believe what he confessed to. We don’t talk about him. His parents were always in church and they kept clothes spotless.

Thank god Gladys sent her grandson Cruisin’. Otherwise, he might have ended up like some kind of weirdo, dressing up in some crazy costume pretending to be somebody he’s not.

ENDERNESS, A.A. Bondy’s first album in eight years was finished the day before a wildfire burned his house down. He recorded and played everything himself.
