This show has now been cancelled, refunds available from point of purchase. The band have said:

“After 6 years playing together and nearly 5 years since we released our first single, we’re sad to say we’ve decided to call it a day as a band. From ‘Ladybird’ through to ‘Lovin’ Feeling’, we’ll always be proud of the music we’ve released and the shows we’ve played, and we feel truly honoured to have had a small clan of loyal fans who have stuck with us through thick and thin! All is well – there have been no ‘artistic differences’ or egoistic combustions – we still love each other lots – it just feels like the right time, for all of us, to bring the Beach Baby chapter of our lives to a close, at least for now.

Sadly, this also means we’ve taken the difficult decision to pull the December tour we had booked. All tickets will be refunded from point of purchase, and we’re really sorry to anybody who we’ve disappointed.

Above all, we’ve loved crafting both ‘No Mind No Money’ and ‘Songs From The Limbo Lounge’ – and for all those who have supported us over the years – keep listening – the music is out there for you, and it always will be!

Until we meet again,

Much love,

BB x”

In 2016, Beach Baby released their acclaimed debut album, No Mind No Money. Wistfully documenting mid-20’s malaise, and splicing the post-punk stylings of 80’s indie with the dreamy organ sounds of Beach House, the record quickly joined the multi-million streaming club, enjoyed firm support from the likes of Lauren Laverne and Annie Mac, and resulted in extensive UK and US touring.

But by the start of 2017, things had…changed. There really was no money. And whilst the first album had been recorded over an intensive two-month period in a cushy East London studio, if Beach Baby wanted to make more music, they were going to have to do it differently. Galvanised by two promising new demos from co-vocalists and songwriters Ollie Pash and Lawrence Pumfrey, the band repaired to the ‘summerhouse’ (read, shed) at the bottom of drummer Shep Hodgson’s garden, and converted it into a makeshift studio. The ‘Beast from the East’ was just around the corner. It was cold. Everyone was still working an inventory of crap jobs. But it was a start. And there was life in the old dog yet…

At the start of 2019, Lovin’ Feeling was the first song to emerge from this long and chilly period of hibernation. Remarkably self-assured, the song sees the band move towards a looser, groovier sound, inspired by 60’s and 70’s pop music. Featuring a deliriously catchy saxophone melody, a smattering of congas and some very funky wah-guitar, the song is a good entry point to Beach Baby’s forthcoming second record – Songs From the Limbo Lounge. Here, the band have created a whole new audio-visual world: the purgatorial hinterland of the Limbo Lounge — a place where romantic burnout, spiritual dereliction and existential sleaze reign supreme. But if that sounds all a bit dour – don’t worry – Beach Baby’s new music might be characteristically melancholic, but it serves up the sad stuff with a wry smile, a soupcon of sleaze, and some serious sex appeal. Hell, you might even find yourself dancing. Ideally in a dagger-collared shirt, a pair of sunglasses, with a Sazerac in your hand.

It’s sad, but it’s also a good time.

It’s limbo, baby.

Wonk Unit w/ Gimme Gimme Gimmes, Reaction

December 13th, 2019

“(Wonk Unit) have managed the almost impossible task of having found their own sound. It’s punk son, but not as we know it”.Eugene Butcher (Big Cheese)

“one of the most unique bands in modern punk rock.
Wonk Unit are a fresh breath of life in the London punk scene. They’re fun, weird, poetic and utterly compelling all at once, a must-see.” (Art Rocker).

Wonk Unit have been going a decade. We have released 7 albums

Flying the Japanese Flag 2009
Trolleys Thank you 2011
Muffy 2013
Nervous Racehorse 2014
Pwosion Idea (compilation) 2015
Mr Splashy 2016
Terror 2018

I am extremely grateful for the life i live. Somehow i’ve managed to forge Wonk into the fabric of a very sterile world. It’s so brill when a new head discovers us and joins the family. Everyone is so open and friendly and inclusive. It’s really nice.
I’m mental. Love you all x

“Supergrass crossed with Kasabian? I think they’re very much better than that”, Tom Robinson, BBC 6 Music

“This is huge, it is really good, really really like it!” Chris Murray, Amazing Radio

“They really know how to write a tune”, Gordon Smart, Radio X

This North West band just might be the hardest working unsigned rock act in the UK right now. In the 4 years since they formed they’ve toured the UK, Europe, North America and worked with producers from Alan Moulder (QOTSA Villains) to Dave Eringa (Manic Street Preachers) and Chris Sheldon (Foo Fighters).

Their latest single, What My Problem, is a modern British take on the classic grunge sound and caps off a successful trilogy of tracks released in rapid succession since September 2018.

Vinnie Caruana w/ Konsi, Spirit Houses

“I found what I love to do long ago,” says Vinnie Caruana. “Writing, recording and performing music, traveling, and making friends and memories. I don’t think I’d truly be happy doing anything else. When you look at it that way, what else is really important than to be happy with your life and how you choose to live it.”

That sentiment precisely embodies the spirit in which Caruana wrote his debut solo album, Survivor’s Guilt. While he may have been alone in writing these songs, however, Survivor’s Guilt is not a solo record in the same way as Caruana’s largely acoustic 2013 EP, City By The Sea, was. On Survivor’s Guilt, Caruana plays acoustic and electric guitars, and enlisted the talents of I Am The Avalanche’s Kellen Robson and Brett ‘The Ratt’ Romnes on bass and drums as well.

Romnes’ role went far beyond performing on the album, however. “Along with playing the drums on the record,” Caruana explains. “Brett also produced and mixed the record. He’s an extremely talented producer and completely understands my vision. He works out of The Barber Shop Studios in New Jersey, where we tracked Survivor’s Guilt, and it’s a world-class facility. The gear at our disposal was pretty ridiculous and we made the very most of it.”

In addition, Rx Bandits’ Steve Choi was brought in to add instrumentation and sonic embellishments to Survivor’s Guilt. “Steve is an extremely talented and versatile musician,” explains Caruana. “His role was to fill spaces left for him with guitar, keys, etc. He took a real interest in the record and his belief and passion in my songwriting completely humbles me. His instincts with what certain parts of the songs needed were spot on.”

The result is an album boasting ten incredibly compelling, multi-layered tracks that bear witness to the breadth of Caruana’s all-encompassing musical vision. “The record turned out exactly how I pictured it.” says Caruana “I’m lucky to have Brett, Steve and Kellen on the album. They are brilliant musicians and the record is the best it can be as a result.”

Survivor’s Guilt is truly the creative culmination of Caruana’s career to date – something that’s extremely evident from the very first listen. There are, of course, some songs – “Burn It Down”, “Heavy Weighs The Summer”, “I Don’t Believe You” – that lean towards Caruana’s punk rock roots, but much of what’s heard here is fresh and new. “We Don’t Have To Die Alone” and “Angel Of North”, for example, are sad and beautiful songs that expose the frailty and vulnerability of the human condition, while, on the flipside, closing track “Your Religion Is Killing Me” is a fierce, ferocious instrumental boiling with existential angst and torment. “The amount of ill will done in this world in the name of religion makes me feel like I’m in a fever dream,” says Caruana. “I always wanted to have an instrumental on a record and the freedom of making a solo record gave me that opportunity. This song is that fever dream.”

Although Survivor’s Guilt ends on that bitter note, the album as a whole is full of hope and positivity, of the spirit, commitment and passion that drives Caruana to do what he does, as he always has. His perseverance and talent are perhaps best exemplified on the title track “Burn It Down”, which veers between extremes: it’s uplifting as well as melancholy, defiant as well as fatalistic, bruised and yet also unbroken.

“I feel lucky to be here,” Caruana says, “and I want to live life completely. I want to respect the dead by doing the most with my life. Every time we lose somebody we must be thankful to still be breathing and have a chance at anything. Life’s not always a picnic, but it’s all we have.” This sentiment, perhaps more than anything else, is the essence of Survivor’s Guilt: Caruana, seizing what life has given him, and making the most of it. He’s certainly expressed himself powerfully in the past as a founding member of The Movielife and I Am The Avalanche, but the songs he’s crafted on Survivor’s Guilt are striking evidence of Caruana pushing himself creatively far beyond anything he’s written before. As Caruana himself says, “This is my debut full-length record, so it’s a huge thing for me. This has been a goal of mine for my entire career, but I’m really happy that I waited this long to make this record, because I had to live life for a while before I was ready to write these songs.”
