Balter are a contemporary folk quartet who have emerged from the music scene in Newcastle. Leaning heavily towards their shared love of Scottish music, they combine traditional and original material with percussive step-dance to create a high energy, driven sound which complements and stretches their traditional influences. The interplay between two fiddles, mandolin and accordion generates a distinctive sound which explores new textures; gelled together with intricate arrangements.

Vibrant six-piece HEISK are a powerful new force on the folk scene. Their relentlessly energetic music stems from their roots in Scottish traditional music and combines it with punchy riffs and grooves.

Rob Ford Explorer // Frantic // Greater The Divide // Canal Capitale

July 20th, 2018

Rob Ford Explorer is an instrumental math rock duo based out of Reno, Nevada. The group consists of a guitar, Cameron, and drum set, Greg. The duo’s live performances are consistently exciting and energetic, as the two incorporate improvisation into every song, making each set completely unique and unpredictable. Despite the uncertain nature of their shows, the duo is always tight and seemingly one cohesive musical unit.

Frantic are an incredibly energetic and eccentric trio based in Glasgow. Filled with technical play and mesmerising vocals, Frantic are one of our favourite and after a listen yours too.

They’re back to make you sing and dance, Canal Capitale never disappoint live and boy will you love their jams.

She performed at numerous festivals, including a tour of the Czech Republic and appearances on two different stages at the Secret Garden Party.[3] Emily also had a slot on the BBC introducing stage at T in The Park in July 2013, which led to her being play listed on BBC Radio 1 with her release “Plasters, Glitter and Glue”.[4] Including BBC Introducing, Emily has had support from Jamal Edwards after performing on SBTV and Mahogany Sessions in 2013.

Emily started working as a receptionist at Abbey Road Studios in 2014 to support her dream of becoming a singer where she met producer Sound Of Fractures who produced her first major single “Take It Or Leave It” released in November 2016.

East London folk band Stick In The Wheel are headed by singer Nicola Kearey, and guitarist/producer Ian Carter. Known for their fierce, raw delivery, this is culturally and politically switched-on music, with the group widely commended for their timely appraisal of English Folk. They reconnect modern audiences to the past, drawing unexpected parallels between then and now. With four BBC Folk Award nominations, their debut “From Here” (2015) was fRoots’ Album of the Year and a MOJO Folk Album of the Year.

Their Second album Follow Them True is an UNCUT 2018 Album of the Year and were cited as the UK’s most exciting new folk band. They continue to question the notion of what folk music is, and what it means in 2018, expanding the radical sound of their debut whilst remaining totally connected with the tradition.

The sold-out album launch at London’s Borderline cemented their reputation of being at the forefront of the English folk resurgence, and live highlights this year included the main stage at Cambridge, Port Eliot, Shambala & Frank Turner’s Lost Evenings II weekend at the Roundhouse.

Having recently released their debut MIXTAPE ‘This and the Memory of This’ which features collaborations with Lisa Knapp, Om Unit and Anna Roberts-Gevalt, Stick In The Wheel continue to push boundaries with energy, passion and intensity.

“Powerful—and deeply relatable” Pitchfork
“Precision folk with anger, lust and blood” The Guardian ????
